Full Itinerary
Day 01: Battambang Arrival (L, D)
Our guide will pick you at your accommodations and take you to Battambang. After reaching your hotel in Battambang, just spend the first-day shopping and walking around to explore a ton of interesting things about the custom and habit as well as the culture of Cambodian people from the locals.
Day 02: Bamboo Train, Killing Caves & Bat Cave (B)
After breakfast, start your second day to discover Battambang attractions. You can visit these destinations in any order you like, but you should make the Bat Cave your last stop if you want to see the bats coming out of the cave. Therefore, our recommended itinerary is: Bamboo train, Killing Caves and Bat Caves.
Bamboo Train
The trip may take about 1 hour including 20 minutes to head out, 20 minutes to some strategically placed shops and 20 minutes to head back. The most interesting part is a one land track, whether you are going out or coming back, it is the same rail. Hence, you will absolutely see a train coming at you from the reverse direction. But don’t worry, it’s very simple, just hops off and lifts the frame and the wheels up, and takes off the track. Wait for the train passes then put your train back and you are on your way again. The entire these steps just happen in 30 seconds.
Killing Caves
A great chance to get to know more about the history of Cambodia. Hear about what the country has been endured although it still remains so positive, fantastic and welcoming. It is hard to imagine that the Killing Cave is a place where people were taken, bludgeoned to death and thrown down into the cave. At the same time, you may notice a memorial at the bottom of the stairs, off to your right, a shrine filled with skulls and bones. You should not take pictures because it doesn’t feel appropriate.
Bat Cave
Ensure that you will be here at 5:45 to get the best seat for the show. It appears over 7 million bats living there and all fly out of the night at around 6 p.m. it is really a stunning experience when it takes over 45 minutes to all leave.
Day 03: Wat Ek Phnom - Battambang Departure (B, L)
Wake up very early in the morning, taste your breakfast at the hotel. Then rent a bike around $1 to $2 for a full day. Afterward, head to Wat Ek Phnom by following the river. Remember to bring water and sunscreen because there is very little shade to get a break from the heat & sun. Anyway, it is really a worth trip. It may take 1-hour riding to get to Wat Ek Phnom. Walk around and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Don’t forget to check out M Boat Noodles next to the river on the way come back to Battambang to enjoy local specialties. Leave Battambang in the late afternoon.
